Original publisher's brown cloth, lettered in gilt to spine. Slightest of rubbing to extremities. Quire F of Vol. I detached from text block, else internally clean and crisp. Presentation copy, inscribed in pencil to half-title of Vol. I; 'Presented to John Webb esq. with the (?) regards of his friend Tho. Landseer', and to half-title of Vol. II; 'To John Webb esq. with the affectionate regards of his friend Tho. Landseer.' A life of portrait and history painter, William Bewick (1795-1866), edited by a former pupil of his, printmaker, Thomas Landseer (1793/4-1880), and presented to engraver, John Cother Webb (1855-1927), in his lifetime considered the doyen of English mezzotint artists.
