Signed by Author(s) A near fine book in a near DW, this is a first edition/ first impression. This is a collection of essays by close friends & not so close friends put together "while there is still time" by people who knew them. Laid in are a number of items; A typed letter from CUP signed by Andrew Brown thanking the previous owner of the book for pointing out some detail in the book; A postcard photo of F R Leavis on the reverse is written "With best wishes for Xmas & the New Year From FR & QD leavis Cambridge 1937" this is written by Mrs Leavis. Also laid in are two identical hand written notes concerning a student of Mr Leavis by the name of Mr PTW Baxter ;There is a hand written note to Mr PTW Baxter there are also two letters hand written by FR Leavis to the same PTW Baxter still in their envelopes. On the front endpaper of the book in pencil is a note which reads "from Geoffrey Walton Christmas 1984". There are a number of annotations in pencil in the text referring to the Christmas postcard.
