First edition, first printing of this Newbery Medal-winning book. Signed by Esther Forbes on the half-title page and inscribed to a former owner in the year of publication. Bound in publisher's orange cloth stamped in black. Very Good with light spotting to cloth at top edge, light dust-soiling. Hinge following half-title page is slightly exposed, paged tanned and with minor, sporadic foxing, small piece of tape to rear paste down. In a Very Good+ unclipped dust jacket with toning and wear to the extremities. Signed copies of the first printing are scarce. Seller Inventory # 140944681
