About this Item
Slight edge wear to jacket, some fading to jacket spine, the second book in the eight book Oakleigh series. Signed 'With love to Sally my charming P.R.O. L. G. J. Layberry 9/10/81' to the fep. The story starts in 1911 and introduces the son of a suburban newsagent. Bob Felton, who is sixteen, finds a deep interest in the farms of his paper-round, runs away from home and takes a job with a family named Ratcliffe who farm near Derby. He enjoys the work, the good living and, as he is instructed in the manual skills of agriculture, finds an increasing fascination in the whole pattern of country life. He develops a smouldering love for Meg, the bossy daughter and, to protect her honour, fights the Squire's son. She feels the same about him but they do not reveal their love until his last night at the farm in August 1914. Seller Inventory # 002772
