Stiff tan wrappers with light green printed dust jacket. Tall octavo. 11pp. Limited to 300 copies signed by the author. The Washington-state born author's first regularly published book. Mary Barnard (1909-2001) graduated from Reed College in 1932 and worked variously as a social work, curator and as Mark Van Doren's research assistant. Her work appeared in the first volume of James Laughlin's "Five Young American Poets" in 1940 and she received Poetry Magazine's Levinson Award in 1935. Barnard had a lifetime correspondence with Ezra Pound and is best known for her translation of "Sappho" which came out in 1958 and is still in print. A good copy with light wear to the wrappers. The text is good with some spotting to the margins. The jacket is worn with some chipping to the spine and top and bottom edge and some light soiling. Scarce. Seller Inventory # 10523
