About this Item
London: Faber & Faber, 1966. First UK Edition. Signed by the author without inscription and dated "23 . ii . 89" on flyleaf. Octavo; 57pp. Tan and salmon dust jacket with 18s net price intact; bound in green cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine. Front free endpaper has been razored out and is lost, with a bit of a stub remaining, scars to flyleaf from blade, and some adhesive residue along gutter (possibly an excised bookplate, or perhaps a library plate, though the book shows no other institutional markings. Jacket rubbed along edges, corners, and spine ends with a couple shallow tears at folds and toning to back panel; expected fading to salmon portion of spine and adjacent on front. Boards rubbed along edges with a small and faded spot of brown staining to front and some stray smudging and soiling. "10 October '66" in pen at top corner of front pastedown, mostly obscured by flap, with a small spot of tape residue. Opens a bit easily between gatherings, but binding is holding soundly. Pages unmarked. Heaney's debut collection, which won the Cholmondeley Award, the Gregory Award, the Somerset Maugham Award, and the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize. Seller Inventory # 27557
