12mo. 239 pages. Hardcover bound in red cloth with gilt lettering on the front board and spine. There is moderate wear to the binding, which has begun to fray at the edges and is smudged on the front cover. The back cover appears to have several small ink stains. The outer edges of the text block are toned. There is foxing and/or discoloration to the title page and somewhat sporadically throughout the text. Hinges are secure. Text is unmarked and sound. Inscribed on the front flyleaf, "To W. W. Daniel from his brother- the author, with affection. / J. W. Daniel. / Jan. 28th, '15 / Charleston S.C. / 89 Pitt St." Rev. James Walter Daniel (1856-1936) was born in Laurens County, South Carolina and died in Seneca, South Carolina. He was a member of the South Carolina Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. His brother, William Wellington Daniel (1859-1921) was also a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church and was the President of Columbia College for 17 years. This book appears to be a novel set in Plantersville, South Carolina near Charleston. Some of the dialog is in rural "Negro dialect." The frontispiece is a photo of an old dirt road, "The Road to Plantersville" and the book contains 5 other plates from photos (6 plates in all). Seller Inventory # 050015
