First edition, stated. Inscribed, signed, and dated by the author on the half-title page: "For the Simsbury Family J-- / J--, H--, and S-- / with all good wishes from the author / F. van Wyck Mason / 1967." Mason was a fairly prolific booksigner but apparently not of this title, "a fiery novel of the Union Navy." The book is square and unmarked; the boards show edgewear, especially at corners and spine ends. The dust jacket is not price-clipped (original price $3.75 at bottom of front flap); chipped and edgeworn; bottom two inches of spine missing, as is a piece at the head of the spine; flaps have been repaired with archival tape; Brodart protected.
