First Edition (SD). 'With Illustrations.' This book was previously owned by June Havoc. She stamped her name on the blank first front end paper. Also, the editor signed his name for her on the same page ( 'Sincerely Burns Mantle, 1940' ). I've provided a photograph. 'Ms. Havoc began as a child vaudeville performer under the tutelage of her mother Rose Thompson Hovick. She later acted on Broadway and in Hollywood, and stage-directed, both on and off-Broadway. She last appeared on television in 1990 in a story arc on the soap opera General Hospital. Her elder sister Louise gravitated to burlesque and became the well-known striptease performer Gypsy Rose Lee.' This book is in very nice condition. You can see the covers in the photos. The label on the spine is quite toned, but the lettering is clear. It also has a very tiny loss at its top corner. The edges and corners of the covers are in excellent shape. The top edge of the spine has a small tear. This 524 page book is square and very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The inside covers and end papers are toned, as you can see in the photograph of the signed page. That's not the case for the rest of the pages. These pages are exceptionally clean. I'm scrolling through and not seeing any soiling. There is a vague semi-crease at the bottom corner of a good number of pages. I don't see any turned-down corner creases or placeholder creases. There are no markings other than Ms. Havoc's stamp. There are no attachments. The editor's signature is the only writing to be found in the book. The years best plays included Key Largo, Life with Father, The Man Who Came To Dinner, The Male Animal, and The Time of Your Life.
