First edition. Hardback in dustwrapper. 24 × 23cm, unpaginated. This copy was owned by British artist and sculptor David Heathcote with his name to the ffep. Heathcote (b.1931) studied at the Slade School of Art, and worked in Zimbabwe and Nigeria for twenty years, an experience that would contribute significantly to his creative vision. During the 1960s and 1970s he assembled a significant collection of Hausa textiles, costume and leather-work, much of which is now in the British Museum. An illustrated study of the African tribal statutes, masks etc held in the Cleveland Museum of Art. Illustrated with 283 black and white photographs. Condition: A good working copy. The dustwrapper is edgeworn and faded to the spine, and with a few small marks. The book itself is in good readable condition but has foxing and tanning to the page edges and some very light foxing to the prelims. Seller Inventory # 015150
