[4], xviii, [2], 180pp. Contemporary calf, contrasting red morocco lettering-piece. Heavily rubbed, loss to head and foot of spine and lettering-piece, joints split. Slightest of browning, overall internally clean and crisp. Scottish poet and lexicographer William Falconer's (bap. 1732, d.1770) seafaring verse narrative detailing the shipboard life of an eighteenth-century merchant sailor. First printed in 1762, the popularity of the poem would endure through to the mid-nineteenth century due to favourable reviews received from writers such as Byron and Coleridge. Size: 8vo.
