Sheet Music, Gov. Wright's Grand March, 1844, in Very Good condition, entirely intact and complete, including fold, insert, and covers which are not separated. Covers are clear and bright, very small closed tear at bottom of front and back covers; light water damage internally. Published by Olivir Ditson, Boston MA, 1844. Measures 14 x 10.5 inches. Silas Wright was offered the Democratic Party's vice presidential nomination in 1844, but instead ran for governor of New York and won, serving from 1845 to 1846. Composer Oliver J. Shaw was considered one of the finest early American composers. The sheet music cover displays exceptional lithography, including an elaborately drawn representation of the arms of the State of New York. A shield on the cover shows the rising sun over a landscape punctuated by canal barges. Below is the state motto, "Excelsior." The shield is flanked by two classical figures; Justice with scales and swords, and Hope holding an anchor and scythe, symbolizing agriculture. Above all this flies an eagle, and above the eagle are the words, "E pluribus unum." A wonderful antique piece!. Seller Inventory # 111720-1
