Pubblicato in collaborazione con il MAK Vienna e "Le stanze del vetro" in occasione dell'esposizione veneziana, il volume presenta oltre 300 opere provenienti dalla collezione del MAK Austrian Museum of Applied Arts. Contemporary Art di Vienna e da collezioni private e mette a fuoco per la prima volta, la storia della lavorazione del vetro in Austria tra il 1900 e il 1937: un periodo compreso tra gli ultimi decenni dell'Impero Austro-Ungarico e la Prima Repubblica. A cavallo del 1900, un gruppo di giovani architetti e designer, allievi delle accademie e delle scuole di architettura, svilupparono infatti uno speciale interesse per la lavorazione del vetro. Protagonisti del Modernismo Viennese, come Josef Hoffmann (1870-1956), Koloman Moser (1868-1918), Joseph Maria Olbrich (1867-1908), Leopold Bauer (1872-1938), Otto Prutscher (1880-1949), Oskar Strnad (1879-1935), Oswald Haerdtl (1899-1959) e Adolf Loos (1870-1933), oggi famosi in tutto il mondo, aprirono la strada ai primi pioneristici sviluppi nella produzione vetraria, lavorando vicino alle fornaci con l'obiettivo di comprenderne a fondo il materiale. La collaborazione tra architetti e designer e l'integrazione di queste innovazioni nella produzione, crearono lo stile del Vetro Viennese, che venne presentato all'interno di nuovi progetti come la "Wiener Werkstätte" o il "Werkbund".
