It is hoped that these brief studies will serve to stimulate the reader to a deeper study of a fascinating and neglected subject, of vital importance to all who are concerned with the oldest and noblest appanage of the crown. The author has preserved the seven illustrations and a map from oblivion, which he considers his duty to make the discourse an interesting one for all. About the Author:-Hugh George Rawlinson was a British academic and writer. He was a professor of English literature in The Deccan College, Poona. Earlier, he was appointed as a professor on Emmanuel College, Cambridge. He was the author of Bactria: The History of a Forgotten Empire , Indian Historical Studies (1913), and Intercourse between India and the Western World, from the earliest times to the Fall of Rome (1916).
