Synopsis

"My way of seeing and interpreting the relationship of humanity, time and place has been influenced by Egyptian tomb paintings, Chinese landscape art, the comic strip and my journeys through the wilderness." Sally Chandler trained initially in Brisbane at the College of Art where she was a student of William Robinson and then at Chelsea and St Martins Art Schools in London. While in London she worked as studio assistant to Australian artist Charles Blackman. With degrees in Arts and Education from Uof Q Sally combined her practice as an artist with her position as Head of the Art Department at St Peters Lutheran College. She also lectured in Art and Design at QUT and was a tutor at the Qld ArtGallery. After returning from four years in Europe Sally launched her art career with a solo exhibition at the Gold Coast Galleries and has continued to show in mixed exhibitions and competitions. Awards include the Stanthorpe Heritage, Caltex and James Hardy prizes for painting and drawing. Her work is represented in private, corporate and Regional Gallery collections in Australia and Europe and she now paints full time in her Buderim studio. Sallys works in painting, drawing and printmaking focus on the landscape with emphasis on the abstract qualities of the visual environment.
