This scare 1st edition book was written by Bruce Crofts BA MSc PhD who focused on the local history of Bath. Much has been written about the renowned periods and characters in Bath's history. Very little has appeared about other times and ordinary people, especially the poor. By selecting one year almost at random, and by analysing in detail what they are reported to have done, the author has revealed a hitherto forgotten, and frequently amusing, pattern of scandal and tragedy. It is no doubt typical of other towns up and down the country during the latter part of Queen Victoria's reign. To add interest for those living in the city today, names and addresses of their Victorian forbears have been quoted in full. Who knows what skeletons may stir in hitherto locked cupboards!
