The first of two excellent books supporting the new Irish national curriculum for music from 2005, with the backing of Wexford County Council and An Foras na Gaelige. Each book contains 20 songs in the Irish language by composer Sue Furlong. Teaching notes and activities for the pupils are provided in both Irish and English. The book contains suggestions for classroom percussion activities, along with piano accompaniments, guitar chord symbols and a CD which provides both sample performances and outstanding professional backing tracks for use in class or in concert. The songs will stimulate children both musically and linguistically.
Book 1 covers Junior and Senior Infants, 1st and 2nd Classes.
Pupils' pages may be photocopied for use in class.

About the Author:
Sue Furlong was born in Waterford in 1962 and has been living and working in Wexford since 1987. She is one of south-east Ireland's most respected and accomplished musicians. Her compositions include "A New King for Israel", a memorable setting of the Christmas story, and "The Dancing Master", commissioned by County Wexford Children's Choir to commemorate the bicentennial 1798 celebrations in County Wexford, as well as the RTE-award-winning "Mass of Thanksgiving". Wexford Sinfonia recently commissioned Sue to write a piece for orchestra, "Transitions", to celebrate their 10th anniversary.
Synopsis:
A teacher of instrumental and vocal music, Sue has worked for many years with children. She is Musical Performance Director of Wexford Festival Singers who perform annually at Wexford Opera Festiveal. Some of her recent songs are published by Boosey & Hawkes. Some of her religious pieces are published by GIA.
Book 1 provides music for Junior and Senior Infants of 1st and 2nd classes. The songs will stimulate children both musically and linguistically. "D'Aon Ghuth" is intended for use with the Irish national curriculum for music from 2005. A CD is also included containing brilliantly scored backing tracks and high-quality sample performances.
