One page. Folio. Typed letter circa 100 words from the English writer. 9 by 12 inches. Neatly matted and framed. In this 1984 letter to a reader, written from Powell's residence The Chantry in Somerset, he writes: "Many thanks for your letter, and the history of your ups and downs with "Dance" (Dance to the Music of Time). I do not find these at all dispiriting, as I am convinced that any novel worth reading makes certain demands on the reader, thought these may take different forms. I don't know whether you have come across my four volumes of Memoirs, where I do say something about this. An abridged version of them called To Keep the Ball Rolling is due comparatively soon in American Penguin- it may even have appeared- which might perhaps amuse you. Anyway thanks for writing and kind comments, which were most cheering". The letter was folded twice and has some chipping at the edges but has been matted and put in a larger frame.
