TYPED LETTER personally signed "Jim Irwin" in black ink. This letter in on HIGH FLIGHT FOUNDATION letterhead, measures 8.5" X 11" and is dated March 6, 1979. Letter has normal mailing folds otherwise in fine condition. Letter states, "Dear Bernice: Enclose is the item which you requested me to sign. Our expenses in sending a photo are $1.50. Now I would like to take a few moments of your time. The Apollo 15 lunar mission in which I participated was a challenge for which I spent many years in preparation. I am grateful for that opportunityto serve my country and my fellow men. But now I am involved in an even greater mission, reaching out to God and man through High Flight Foundation. Enclosed is our newsletter which describes many of our projects. One which is especially dear to my heart is "Project Uplift," a program which permits me and other former astronauts to speak in school assemblies with the youth of America. Today, more than ever, our young people need positive input, and Project Uplift gives us an opportunity each year to share with thousands of young people as they prepare and develop body, mind and spirit. If you would like to assist in this endeavor, I have enclosed a self-addressed return envelope. Cordially yours, (signed) James B. Irwin President". James Benson "Jim" Irwin (March 17, 1930 ? August 8, 1991) was an American astronaut, aeronautical engineer, test pilot, and a United States Air Force pilot. He served as Lunar Module pilot for Apollo 15, the fourth human lunar landing.
