With two canceled postage stamps of 5 Heller each. Divided back. 14 x 9 cm. In acid free Mylar envelope. Round purple ink pPostmark: Hradec Králové Königgrätz 4 IX 17 7 The message is dated 4 September 1917. It is written in pencil and , and after a century the writing is barely visibly. Color photographic postcard. City scene with the synagogue in foreground. Hradec Kralove is a town east of Prague, Czech Republic. The synagogue was consecrated in 1905, when the Jewish population was about 300 persons. In 1930, there were over 400 Jews in the town. By the end of 1942, all the Jews, who constituted c. one percent of the total population, had been deported to be murdered elsewhere. A few, very few. managed to survive. A few fled in time, like Avigdor Dagan (Viktor Fischl)(30 June 1912 - 28 May 2006) the writer, playwright, literary translator, and diplomat. He fled in 1939, and his many readers and the state of Israel were the beneficiaries of his timely escape. Seller Inventory # 015844
