Signature of Lord Gambier, on slip: ?Uxbridge twenty-five April 1832, The Revd F Cunningham, Vicarage, Lowestoft. Gambier?. Includes a clear red postmark dated 25 April 1832. Lord Gambier (1756-1833) served in the Royal Navy, first becoming a captain in 1778, was active through the Napoleonic Wars, Commander-in-Chief of the fleet that won at Copenhagen in 1807, and promoted to Admiral in 1830, the date of this signature. He died two years later. The addressee, the Rev. Francis Cunningham (1785-1863,) was vicar of Lowestoft in Suffolk for some 45 years. 11 x 76 cm. Seller Inventory # 019886
