About this Item
Handwritten on-board dinner menu on illustrated company stationary for the Empire Line's SS Pennsylvania, dated February 22, 1900. Offerings include over twenty dishes including Bouillon of Bass, Fricadell a la Neapolitan, Lemon Jelly, and Blanc Mange. Measures 8" by 5"; verso blank. The SS Pennsylvania was a steamship built in 1872 by William Cramp & Sons. For the majority of its life, it served as a passenger vessel on transatlantic routes, but was was briefly requisitioned as a troopship in the Spanish-American War. Afterwards it was sold to the Empire Line in 1898 as a passenger liner on its route from Seattle, Washington, to Nome, Alaska. It was ultimately destroyed in a fire in 1918. Fine.
