About this Item
This collection consists of two pieces. The first is a vintage Yale University publication from the turn of the century (1901). It is titled "Decennial Record of the Class of 1890 - S.S.S. (Sheffield Scientific School) of Yale University". Includes brief biographical sketches of the graduates (class of 1890) from the Sheffield Scientific School of Yale University showing what they are doing ten years later: what they did after graduation, where they are working, who they are married to, and any children. Names arrayed alphabetically; includes a list of those who had passed away in the interim. Compiled by the Class Secretary, Harry G. Day who also wrote a one-page explanatory letter that is included as an insert. A b/w photograph of a boy named James Burdelle Shepard (Class Boy, Yale '90 S, born Feb 14, 1892) appears on the frontispiece. Measures 6" x 9" with 22+ pages. The contents of the book is no longer connected to the covers. However, since it appears the contents had been hand-knotted and bound, the contents is still all in one piece - though separate from the covers. (First and last pages are blank; they are also separated but not part of the contents.) There are also some tiny pieces missing along the spine; this has no impact on the contents. The second vintage piece is titled "Biographical Record of the Class of 1890 - Sheffield Scientific School of Yale University". It was published in 1916 (fifteen years after the prior piece) and is essentially an update and expansion of the prior piece. Bios of the graduates have been updated where needed and they are more extensive; there are also more obituaries. Also included in this updated piece are congratulatory letters from professors and others, and a rundown of the activities that accompanied what was in essence the 25th reunion of this class. This piece also includes a b/w photograph on the frontispiece showing attending members of the class of 1890 at the reunion, together with family members. Edited by Albert M. Turner. Measures 6" x 9" with 34+ pages. Both the front and back outer covers show that the thin flexible hardcovers have each been bent. These bends are barely visible from the outside and are only apparent once the covers have been opened. Also, there is a small vertical tear at the top of almost all the pages that has no impact on the texts in any way. Both pieces are former library books which include a bookplate on the inside front cover and an embossing on the title page. Other than the conditions mentioned, both of these pieces are in great condition considering they are more than one hundred years old. Seller Inventory # E6033
