About this Item
[4] p.; 18 cm. The concert was to raise money for relief to Europe during World War One. The Maquarre Ensemble was founded in 1913 by Daniel Maquarre, listed as conductor and flute on this program. Daniel Maquarre (1881-?) was born in Brussels; after coming to the United States he was a member of several orchestras, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, where he was principal flute from 1910 to 1918. The Maquarre Ensemble still existed in 1925, when it was under the direction of Marquarre's brother, Andre Maquarre (1875-1936), who was principal flute of the Boston Symphony from 1898 to 1918 and of the Philadelphia Orchestra from 1918 to 1921. Both brothers returned to Europe around 1930. In this program, the ensemble's personnel is made up primarily of Philadelphia Orchestra members. The program consisted of works by Andre Caplet, Max Reger, Carlos Salzedo (who also performed), and Paul Juon, Leopold Stokowski (conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra), and Anton Dvorak. Scarce.
