A very large bifolium on parchment from St. Augustine on the Gospel of John (tractate 94). in total, each leaf with remains of double column, 41 lines in a fine rounded early gothic hand, verso of first leaf much scuffed with remains of large initial 'C', Italy, twelfth century. Augustine's tractate on the Gospel of John is a profound commentary on the fourth book of the New Testament. Augustine presents his interpretation of John's Gospel, which emphasizes God's love and the redemptive power of Jesus Christ. Throughout the tractate, Augustine emphasizes the importance of faith in God's grace and the transformative power of Christ's sacrifice. The 94th tractate focuses on the prayer of Jesus in John 17, exploring themes of unity, love, and the relationship between the Father and the Son.
