About this Item
Faraday writes: 'Dear Sir, It is literally want of time that has delayed my answer to your obliging letter for which I know [sic] heartily thank you. The moment I get out of the embarrassment attending the preparing for & delivering two courses of lectures at once I shall make a point of seeing you and talking about not only the curious subject we were last upon but many other things. I am dear Sir, Yours very truly, M. Faraday.' Another letter to Dr. Boott is reproduced in The Life and Letters of Faraday, Vol. II (London, 1870), p. 94. Boott 'was an American physician and botanist who was resident in Great Britain from 1820' (Wikipedia). He served as Secretary of the Linnean Society from 1832-1839. Faraday also wrote to Boott on 17 June 1833: 'Dear Sir I enclose an admission as you desire & feel much flattered that Miss Marham should wish to hear the Lectures. I hope Mrs Boott is quite well & that you are not in that fagged & tired condition in which you were when I last saw you[.] I had trusted we should have seen you during our Evenings and failing that have been quite sorry I could not find time to call upon you; but I feel that the best answer I can make to your compliments is to stay at home & work hard. I am Dear Sir Very Truly Yours M Faraday Dr Boott' (The Correspondence of Michael Faraday, Vol. 2, 1993, p. 139, Letter 669). Seller Inventory # 24350
