About this Item
American poet and novelist Robert Penn Warren (1905-1989) scrawled and signed this ambiguous note to Tom Mahoney of Poughkeepsie, NY in 1976. The note reads: Dear Mr. Mahoney: Yes send to 2495 Redding Road, Fairfield, Conn 06430 after September 14. Warren is the only person to have won Pulitzer Prizes for both fiction and poetry. He received the 1947 Pulitzer Prize for the novel All the King s Men, and the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1958 and 1979. Warren founded the literary journal The Southern Review with Cleanth Brooks, and was one of the founders of New Criticism, the formalist movement in literary theory that emphasized close reading as a way to discover how a work of literature functioned as a self-contained, self-referential aesthetic object. The note was sent on a 3 ¼ x 5 ½ post card with a circular cancellation stamp from West Wardsboro, VT dated September 4, 1976. Condition: Crease at the left side (does not touch signature), otherwise very good condition. Seller Inventory # A01169
