The youngest four-star general in World War II, Mark Clark (1896-1984) signed this First Day Issue of the "Prayers from the Inaugural Addresses of Dwight D. Eisenhower" in blue ink. A commemorative 6-cent postage stamp of Eisenhower is above the printing of his second inaugural address. The stamp was issued as a memorial of the President who died March 28, 1969. There is a circular cancellation stamp dated October 14, 1969 near the center of the page. Mark Clark signed to the left of Ike's last words at the bottom margin. Mark Clark served in the U.S. Army in the First and Second World Wars, as well as, the Korean War. He led the Fifth Army in its capture of Rome during WWII. Clark and Eisenhower met at West Point in their youth and were great friends for the rest of their lives. 8 1/2" x 11". Copyright at bottom left corner dated 1969, printed by S. M.
