About this Item
American humorist George Ade (1866-1944) penned, signed and dated this quotation January 27, 1913. The witty lines read: "Early to bed and early to rise, and you will meet very few prominent people." George Ade earned national notoriety for his column, "Stories of the Streets and of the Town", which used street language and slang to represent daily life in Chicago. He gained the moniker, "Aesop of Indiana" for his humorous fables full of vernacular-speaking characters. Ade also wrote several plays, the best-known being: The County Chairman and The College Widow. The original 3 3/8" x 6" piece of lined paper with the quotation and signature has been laid onto a slightly larger piece of paper. Condition: In good condition with a neat, bold signature.
