Abraham Ortelius credits his sources, Nicolas Nicolay and Jean Surhon, on these two maps. Map No. 11 in Ortelius' Theatrum Orbis Terrarum (Antwerp, Aegidius Coppen Diesth, 1571, first published in 1570. ----GEOGRAPHY: ----Caletensium. Map of the vicinity of Calais, France across the English Channel from Dover, England, just appearing on upper left of the map. Calais is prominently shown as a walled city. Greuelinge (Gravelines) on the Aa River is at the top, and Monstreul (Montreuil) on the Canche River is at the bottom. ----Veromanduorum. This map, oriented with North down, covers part of the present department of Aisne. The towns of Peronne, Cambrai and Guise are among those included. ----CONDITION: Staining and reinforcement at centerfold. Surface dirt.
