Antique print, titled: 'Namurcum Comitatus' - Antique map, titled: Namurcum. Map of the old county of Namur with beautiful cartouches, with coat of arms. German text on verso. Source unknown, to be determined. Engraving on laid paper. Watermark: no Made by 'Henricus Hondius' after an anonymous artist. Henricus Hondius II or Hendrik Hondius the Younger (1597-1651) was a Dutch engraver, cartographer and publisher. He was born in Amsterdam, the son of the famous cartographer Jodocus Hondius. After his father died in 1612 Henricus ran the business with his brother-in-law. In 1621 opened his own company in his hometown. The first time his name was mentioned in an atlas was in 1623 when he published the fifth edition of the Mercator-Hondius atlas. After 1628 Henricus partnered with the cartographer Jan Janssonius and together they continued the business. Very good, given age. Original middle fold, as issued. Paper edges a bit irregular. Ample margins. Some small stains in margin. Small tear in middle fold in lower margin, remargined with contemporary paper. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully. The overall size is ca. 54.2 x 45.4 cm. The image size is ca. 49.9 x 39.4 cm. The overall size is ca. 21.3 x 17.9 inch. The image size is ca. 19.6 x 15.5 inch.
