An original, complete issue of 16 pages dated February 11, 1882 -- On page 92 it is noted that on January 17, 1882 the following patent was issued to T.A. EDISON , patent # 252,442 for "Telephone", this is an historic event and highly desireable to collectors of Edison's work and scientific events -- Other items of note with engravings are: A descriptive article with pictures related to the fire which destroyed the SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN OFFICES on January 31, 1882, the front page has an interesting article on Worcester, page 87 on "Workman Gathering Cork", plus many others -- the publisher proclaims their publication to be "A Weekly Journal of Practical Information, Art, Science, Mechanics, Chemistry, and Manufactures". -- Frank Luther Mott, winner of The Pulitzer Prize for his History of American Magazines, states that "The Scientific American had a significance--at least for its first sixty or seventy years--unapproached in kind and effect by any other periodical" --.
