About this Item
1968-1970. 4to, stab-stapled, except for issue 7, 8vo, wrappers. [30pp.]-[136pp.]. Issues 4 and 6 being co-publications with Lee Harwood's 'Tzarad' (issues 3 and 4 respectively), issue 7 edited by Riley with John James. Contributors across the run include Charles Olson, J. H. Prynne, Barry MacSweeney, Douglas Oliver, Stephen Rodefer, John Riley, Andrew Crozier, Wendy Mulford, Rolf Dieter Brinkmann, David Chaloner, Mark Hyatt, John Hall, Ian Patterson, Ray Crump, John Temple, Nick Totton, Paul Selby, Martin Wright, Gill Vickers, Tim Longville, Pete Bland, Stephen Jonas, John Wieners, Frank O'Hara and Bill Berkson, Gerard Malanga, Jack Spicer, Robin Blaser, Lewis Warsh, Ebbe Borregaard, Ron Padgett (including translations of Pierre Reverdy, Blaise Cendrars, and Guillaume Apollinaire), Tom Clark, Dick Gallup, Michael Brownstein, Peter Schjeldahl, Sam Abrams, James Alexander, Anne Waldman, David Rosenberg, Victor Coleman, George Tysh, Harvey Bialy, Keith Abbott, Paul Metcalf, John Newlove, Barbara Guest, Fred Buck, Peter Handke, Claude Royet-Journoud, Tom Raworth, Chris Torrance, Thomas A Clark, Neil Mills, Paul Evans, Paul Green, Ted Kavanagh, Rolf Eckart John, Ralf-Rainer Rygulla, Roberto Fernandez Retamar, Geoffrey Hazard, Adrienne Riley, Tom Phillips, Richard Long, Bruce McLean, Anselm Hollo (translation of Hugo Ball), Harwood (including translations of Tristan Tzara, Rene Magritte, Max Jacob, and Philippe Soupault), Michel Couturier, James, and Peter Riley (including translation of Francis Ponge). Very Good overall, sometimes better but with some wear, issue 6 being rather worn. Issues 2 and 5 have the ownership inscription/signature of John James; bound in to issue 3, at the start, is a found sheet showing photographs of coastal scenery and inland waterways, on which is typed or printed in red (along with the basic publication details) 'This copy is John James's'; and issue 4 has two extra sheets bound in (one at the start, one at the end), though they are not personalised. James contributes to all four of these issues (and others). Lastly, issue 1 (which is designated 'N.F.S.', i.e. 'not for sale') contains a loose sheet printing a Maximus text by Olson, an outtake in fact from issue 2, because the poem had already appeared elsewhere.
