30pp. With a half-title. Recent half-calf, brown cloth boards, lettered in gilt. Minor shelf-wear. Marbled endpapers, slight shaving to top-edge. The sole edition of a panegyric elegy by literary critic John Dennis (1658-1734) devoted to the passing of Queen Anne: 'Muse, shew Britannia to her mournful Lyre, / Lamenting all the Virtues of her Queen, / All the great Actions of her wond'rous Reign, / In which the Terrour of the British Arms / Was carry'd to Germania's horrid Alps; / Their fame beyond the Ocean's farthest Waves.' As the requiem is swiftly abandoned, the poem descends to fawning adoration of the lately crowned George I: 'Heark how the Air with Shouts of Joy resounds, / With Acclamations of bless'd Multitudes! / Heark how aloud with one Accord they cry, / In Imitation of their God- like Chiefs, / Long live the Royal George, long may he live, / And happy may he reign!'
