Page 296 is misnumbered as 226 . ***Condition: A VG+ copy bound in recent half leather and antique-style paper-covered boards. The gilt-ruled backstrip bears a gilt-lettered red leather label. The covers are near pristine; spine decoration and lettering bold and bright. Joints and hinges solid, binding firm. There is light toning/spotting to the original endpapers and title page, but the remainder of the text is clean, crisp and bright. The only evidence of prior ownership is contemporary inked initials L.B.P. on the title page. ***Content: This classic travelogue documents Johnson s journey (accompanied by Boswell) through northern Scotland, the Hebrides and other islands. It contains perceptive observations on history, social customs and political conditions, agricultural and farming practices, wildlife and scenery, with poignant, personal commentary on the hardy inhabitants of the region.
