The first Dublin edition, printed in the same year as the first London edition (but in an entirely reset form), of novelist and jurist Henry Fielding's influential treatise on crime, poverty and punishment. His legal training, position as a Westminster magistrate at Bow Street and founder two years previously of a proto-police force dubbed the 'Bow Street Runners' ensured that his sensible proposals were taken seriously; several, including restricting the sale of gin, were swiftly enacted, ESTC T89872.
