1919. First edition, printed for private circulation and published by Maclehose Jackson and Co. xvi, 251pp., a frontispiece portrait of Brigadier-General A.H. Leggett, 32 other black and white illustrations and 5 folding colour maps. Top edge gilt. This is the scarce first ediition, printed for private circulation, of Captain E.R. Boyd's personal account of service with 8th Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) in the 52nd (Lowland) Division during the First World War. There are accounts of the Battles of Gaza 1917, and a campaign in the hills to capture of Jerusalem. He transferred to France in April 1918 and went into the line on the Vimy Ridge, then in July the Battalion transferred to the 34th Division. He was wounded by shrapnel during series of advances near Beugneux (near Soissons). The book is bound in the original blue cloth covered boards with gold titling on the front board and spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with light shelf wear on the boards. The top corners are lightly bumped and the spine ends are more heavily bumped. The contents are tight and clean with foxing on the endpapers and first and last few pages, including some marks on the title page.There is some scattered light foxing elsewhere within the book.
