Published anonymously, the author was Roert Williams Buchanan (1841-1901) a prolific English poet, novelist and playwright, wrote mainly on English themes. However, he visited America and Saint Abe and the present work, both long narrative poems, are set there. This book is dedicated to Walt Whitman and to the author's friends in Washington.
