First Edition. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. decorated green cloth with some shelfwear and bumping, rear endpaper partly missing, 243pp plus advts., text block clean and sound. Published anonymously, the author was Roert Williams Buchanan (1841-1901) a prolific English poet, novelist and playwright, wrote mainly on English themes. However, he visited America and Saint Abe and the present work, both long narrative poems, are set there. This book is dedicated to Walt Whitman and to the author's friends in Washington. Among the advertisements at the rear, for Saint Abe, is a commendation in verse by Whitman. Scarce. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Seller Inventory # 19695
