About this Item
First edition (with a "1" on copyright page) of one of Thurber's full length fairy tales. Is it a children's book? Opinions seem to differ. And really, does it matter? The blurb describes the book as "a fairy tale for grown-ups" but qualifies this by going on to say that it's a story that "only the young in heart will understand". Whatever it is, it's highly entertaining stuff. Lots of little drawings throughout by the author, and a four page section of color illustrations, plus the jacket, by Don Freeman. This is a Wartime Book and in complying with restrictions on materials, pretty poor paper was used resulting in the usual browning to edges and endpapers. However this is not as bad here as with many copies and we have a very good copy indeed in very good dust jacket, with browning, a little wear to edges and folds, a short tear to top of front panel and a small hole in the base of the spine. All four corners of the flaps are neatly clipped? MC. Seller Inventory # 001338
