Frontispiece and 7 further b&w plates, numerous drawings, many of which were by Livingstone, 23 maps, some quite large fold outs which were drawn by Livingstone and other contemporary explorers. This book was published for the Trustees of the Rhodes-Livingstone Museum with the aid of a Grant from the Government of Northern Rhodesia. *** DUST JACKET in good condition. Some edgewear and soiling. Now protected in Trimsleeve wrapper. Not price clipped. *** CONTENTS; Published to coincide with the centenary of Livingstone's first sighting of the Victoria Falls, and with a foreword by Sir Arthur Benson, then Governor of Northern Rhodesia, and an introduction by Dr Hubert F Wilson, grandson of Dr Livingstone. David Livingstone's avowed mission in life was to rid Africa of the scourge of slavery. However, in the course of thirty years wanderings in the interior he kept careful records of what he saw, and became a most accomplished geographer. The author had access to original papers of Livingstone, housed in the Rhodes Livingstone Museum (now the Livingstone Museum) not far from the Victoria Falls. Size: 225x145mm.
