Vol. 2 has frontispiece engraving, three engraved plates, two tables, and a fold-out map of Colombia at rear. Full leather bindings. Early spine replacements. Spines chipped. Gaspard Théodore Mollien (1796 1872) was a French diplomat and explorer. At the time of his travels in Colombia, the country had just become independent, having separated from Spain in 1819. Mollien describes his journey, the natives, and the politics of the country. Plates engraved by Pierre Francois Legrand (1743-1824). This is a scarce as well as an important work, published later in 1824 in English and the following year in German, Dutch, and Italian. French text. Sabin 49917. Seller Inventory # 119227
