About this Item
If books could be designed for maximum confusion and ambiguity, this would be a front-runner. Let's start with the author: This is not Rosemary Ann Harris, the British actress now best known for playing Aunt May Parker in the early Spider-Man movies. Nor is it Rosemary Simari Harris, American author of mystery thrillers. No, this is Rosemary Jeanne Harris, born in England in 1923 and fairly prolific author across a wide range of genres. She is best known for her Egypt trilogy which started with the Carnegie Medal-winning "The Moon in the Cloud" in 1968. She has also worked with Errol Le Cain to produce several magnificent picture books. But throughout the 50's, 60's and 70's, she also wrote several feminine romantic suspense novels, the first being "The Summer-House" in 1956, and "Voyage to Cythera" being the second. Further confusion is incurred with this title, which is also used for many other things including an obscure musical documentary and several pieces of music, a painting by Watteau, a poem by Baudelaire, a short story by Margaret Drabble and, most notably, the 1984 Anglo/Italian/German/Greek movie of the same name, which has nothing at all to do with this novel. (That movie was directed by Theodoros Angelopoulos, by the way, who also directed one of my favorite foreign films, "The Beekeeper", but this really is digressing!) Back to the book. Minor browning to edges and endpapers, but a very good copy indeed in very good dust jacket indeed with minimal browning and edgewear. Lovely copy in its attractive Sally Holliday jacket.
