Original yellow illustrated wrappers, in the original twenty-four monthly parts (November 1857-October 1859), bound in hardcover. First edition, as descriped by Van Duzer, except the slip for Byron's works not present in no. 14, the 20 pp of inserted ads "Grace Aguilar's Works" in no. 24 are not present. The last leaf of inserted ads in no. 10 is partly defective. Illustrated with engraved plates and small woodcuts by the author. In a blue cloth covered four fold wrapper and slipcase. Four-fold wrapper has leather title label on spine, label is chipped and worn, but readable, and spine is faded. Slipcase is worn a little at corners, but generally in very good shape.
