A very clean, bright, and solid copy of the first English edition. Published in September of 1915 in an impression of 8000 copies, including Canadian and Colonial export editions. Last page of ads dated 8/15/15. Some pages in the middle of the book remain uncut. 'Methuen's Popular Novels' pamphlet laid in. Original red cloth brightly lettered in gilt on the spine. The author's Preface, included in this UK edition, was not present in the US edition. The dust jacket has been professionally cleaned and been gently and beautifully restored.
