About this Item
Philadelphia: Blakiston/Triangle, 1945 edition printed from 1932 Morrow first edition plates. Near Fine hardcover, in dustwrapper with a couple thin edge-tears out. This was the author's best known book, a classic "hard riding, fast shooting tale that never slackens its pace" [from dw]. Canyon City was a fortress hide-out on the Arizona border. Crooked dealings sent Tom Larned to prison for five years; now the innocent cowhand was released and many wondered if five years had slowed his fast-draw & did he have a chance against that fortress. Edward Beverly Mann, son of a Methodist minister, was born in Hollis, Kansas, on January 31, 1902. A rugged sportsman, he was a columnist for "Field and Stream" and edited gun magazines, including "The American Rifleman" for the National Rifle Association. His commitment to the history of the west was fulfilled during his 1950s editing stint overseeing the University of New Mexico Press. When he died in 1989 he left his books and personal papers to the American Heritage Center at the University of Wyoming. Seller Inventory # 5735
