About this Item
Gray wraps with black titles, Some edge and corner wear with missing front, lower right corner and larger missing back left corner. Overall, this is still a solid copy, square and securely bound. ; Three pages of ads for Mission Study Course books in the back. ; Forward Misson Study Courses; B & W Photographs; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 333 pages; This is both a Civil Rights book and a somewhat racist work. It was written to encourage Northern, young, white missionaries to go South. At the same time, it takes a patronizing attitude toward the Southern blacks whom the missionaries would help. Overall, the book gives an interesting view of liberal white attitudes at the start of the 20th century. There are many black and white photos. I am uncertain about the publishing history of this work. Several different publishing houses produced copies in 1909, at least one of which may have been hardcover. I cannot be sure which publication came first. Sold DePaul U cat 104 9.4.13. Seller Inventory # 12457
