CONDITION DESCRIPTION: Light rubbing and wear to edges, corners and spines. Rear spine of vol.1 torn. Interiors have age toning, else generally clean and tight. CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: The United States Service Magazine was more than just a military journal. Edited by the military veteran and noted educator and writer, Henry Coppee Published monthly with 6 issues per volume. It published not only articles on military and naval affairs as were required for the basis of a service periodical during the Civil War, but fiction, poetry, stories of the war, and articles on artistic and literary subjects. Civil War scholars will find of particular value the profiles of Union military leaders (with accompanying engravings) and the meticulous records of dismissals, commissions, troop movements, captured flags and other official intelligence.
