First Edition. 8vo. [204 x 124 x 17 mm. 71, [1] pp. Bound c.1920 in brown cloth, smooth spine lettered in gilt, uncut edges. Bound with: GIBBES (George Smith): A Second Treatise on the Bath Waters, Comprehending their Medicinal Powers in General, and Particularly as they Relate to the Cure of Dyspepsia, Gout, Rheumatism, Jaundice and Liver Complaints, Chlorosis, Cutaneous Eruptions, Palsy, &c. &c. First Edition. 8vo. [2]ff, 120pp. Uncut edges. Bath: printed by W. Meyler, Grove; and sold by all the Booksellers in Bath; and by the Robinsons, London, 1803 The first treatise has a strip cut from the head of the title, which has been infilled. The second has the author's name written at the head. A few pencil markings and a little spotting but very good copies. ESTC locates nine copies of the first treatise, but only one of them in the USA, at the National Library of Medicine. George Smith Gibbes (1771-1851) practised medicine in Bath for many years, being elected Physician to Bath General Hospital in 1804, and appointed Physician Extraordinary to Queen Charlotte in 1819.
