About this Item
Apparent First Edition (NAP). In French and English. Once listed, this will be the Only signed copy for sale anywhere on the Internet. The inscription is at the top of the first page. I struggled a bit with the name of the person the book is inscribed to. Ms. Cadot made and corrected two spelling errors in her name. The inscription reads: ' To Patrizia Levi, who helped me when I was helpless. Will never forget her smile. Sincères Amitiés, Farideh Cadot.' Patrizia Levi, a psychiatrist, who died last year is described in an obituary: 'spirited, loving, incisive, and funny, as well as elegant, generous, and empathic. She also had a formidable intellect. One former patient called her 'the smartest woman in New York.' Patrizia Turi was born in 1938, in Florence, Italy. She received a degree in medicine from the University of Florence and moved to New York in 1966 for a post-doctoral fellowship in pharmacology at Cornell Medical College. She began her psychiatric practice in 1975, treating patients for three decades and overseeing clinical residents at Payne Whitney Psychiatric Clinic. At the age of fifty, she began making art, and her paintings-- portraits, still lifes, and landscapes-- were exhibited in galleries in New York and Florence. In her work she sought to connect the remembered locales of her upbringing in Tuscany with the people and places of her life in New York.' The book is in excellent condition. You can see the covers in the photos. They're very clean, one tiny white spot on the front. They are in very good shape, one light crease at the front bottom corner. The page edges are perfectly clean. The book is very solidly bound from cover to cover. All the pages are nicely tight. You can see a little bit of the dried glue at the gutter between the front cover and the first page, the signed page. However, the front cover is very firmly bound. The interior of the book looks pretty much perfect. Scrolling through, I'm not finding any instances of soiling. The pages are nicely bright. I'm not seeing any creasing. There are no markings. No attachments of any kind. And the signed inscription is the only writing to be found anywhere. There are illustrations on nearly every page, some in color, some in black-and-white. They are all in excellent condition. 'This book is published to accompany the exhibition celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Farideh Cadot gallery. Our idea was more for a mirthful and freely inspired book of souvenirs and stories than a traditional exhibition catalogue. You will find here aleatory fragments of a long story, a selection of some artists' work who have been part of this story, as well as mementos of these 20 years of adventure. These more personal documents illustrate how the story is also one of passion. This publication is a tribute to the artists and collectors who have supported the gallery during these past twenty years. It is also a way for Farideh Cadot to show through these images a gratitude to all those who have been by her side.'. Seller Inventory # 004632
