About this Item
Araki's Tokyo Lucky Hole offers a privileged view of Tokyo's underworld by one of Japan's greatest photographers, Nobuyoshi Araki. Between 1983 and 1985, when Tokyo's sex industry was in full flower, Araki prowled Shinjuku, Tokyo's famous red light district, taking pictures in the sex shops and clubs. His project came to an abrupt end when the district was closed by judicial decree in 1985. Araki's photographs form a historical record of Shinjuku's glory days and a portrait of a lesser-known side of Tokyo life. - - - - - - - - - First edition with rare obi, slight tanning to pages which is common due to poor quality paper stock used deliberately for cheap look, otherwise book, cover and obi (band) in fine condition. The book has been neatly covered in a clear Mylar cover/wrap to protect it. Note this is the first edition and the explicit images have censor blocks over parts. (Martin Parr and Gerry Badger, The Photobook, vol 1, page 307). - - - - - - - - - PLEASE NOTE: Additional shipping costs may be required for insured shipping to your destination beyond our standard rates due to its value - we will inform you of the amount at time of purchase.
